Behind the Scenes: What’s New at Little Sew and Sew?

Running a small fabric and yarn shop is a bit like running a tiny ecosystem. Things are always growing, shifting, and evolving behind the scenes. Even when the shop looks quiet from the outside, there’s usually a lot happening in the background. So today I wanted to share a little update on what’s been going on at Little Sew and Sew, what I’m working on, and what’s coming next.

(Photo: I’ve been playing with different techniques lately, including rope work and scrap‑based projects. Creativity fuels everything I do behind the shop. In the photo I am learning how to weave a rope net.)

A gentle shift toward eco‑friendly fibres

Over the past few months, I’ve been slowly transitioning the shop toward a more sustainable, vegan‑friendly range. That means more organic cottons, bamboo blends from responsible mills, and plant‑based yarns that feel beautiful to work with. It’s a direction that feels right for me, for the planet, and for the kind of makers who shop here.

I’ve been speaking with UK suppliers who specialise in ethical production, and I’m excited to bring in new yarns that tick all the boxes: soft, durable, eco‑conscious, and accessible in price.

New kits in development

If you’ve been following along, you’ll know I’ve been experimenting with free-motion embroidery and scrap‑based projects. These have sparked a whole wave of kit ideas; small, joyful makes that use up leftovers and encourage creativity without waste.

A few things currently on the workbench:

  • Mini patchwork pin cushion kits

  • Free-motion embroidered greeting cards

  • “Fabric sandwich” starter packs for beginners

  • Scrap‑friendly home décor projects

These are designed to be simple, calming, and achievable even when life is busy.

Balancing shop life with rescue work

Many of you know that alongside the shop, I also work in dog rescue and behaviour. It’s a huge part of my life, and sometimes it means the shop ticks along quietly while I’m juggling dogs, volunteers, and training. I’m grateful for every customer who supports a small business run by a real human with a very full plate.

What’s coming next

Over the next few weeks, you’ll see:

  • More eco‑friendly yarns arriving

  • Embroidery kits

  • Buttons (lots of them!)

  • The first batch of scrap‑friendly kits

  • A few behind‑the‑scenes posts about how I choose suppliers

Thank you for being here, for supporting a tiny shop with big values, and for giving me the space to grow Little Sew and Sew in a thoughtful, sustainable way.
